I am so excited to be introducing the next goddess in my Goddess Diaries interview series!! Thank you so much for all the wonderful feedback on our first interview, with Kathryn Cardinal, you all are just so lovely!
Something that is kind of rare today... I have actually known Ashley since our youngin years! She and her sister attended the same dance school as I, and we both come from homeschooling artsy families. We reconnected via the internet a few years ago, and I'd like to say we've been inspiring each other since then. I just love her children so much, and I'm sure the 3rd one will be no exception.
What motivates you the most to be living the lifestyle you live?
My children, hands down the best little motivators. From pre-conception to now having a 4 and 1/2 year old and a 1 and 1/2 year old they inspire me everyday to live the life I’ve always dreamt of. I want this for them so it only makes since that I can show them through example.
How would you describe your lifestyle?
I strive to live consciously. We live as close to nature as we can and try to instill the wonders of the outdoors in our children. I’ve been labeled things like “crunchy” and “hippie” but really I’m just doing me, I don’t like labels. I’m just living the life that speaks to me the most and that is one that is aware of our environmental impact and not being blind to what we are told is right just because the masses believe it. I make my own choices, based on how it effects me and my family.
Where do you look for inspiration?
Other Mama’s are a huge inspiration for me. I love talking and connecting with other moms. Just knowing we are going through similar things has helped me tremendously not only as a mother but a rising entrepreneur. I love seeing how many mothers that are kicking ass with running their own businesses and raising incredible kids. I also love being in the homes of loved Mama friends, seeing how they use their living space and how their family works in the space, its beautiful to me and often has me leaving inspired on how I can better use my living space to best fit my families interests and needs.
How do you stay above all of the negativity out there in the world currently?
Phew that can be a tough one at times! I don’t own a TV so that helps, but really for me it’s about being present in the day to day. Focusing on what is right in front of me.
What are things you cannot live without in your daily life? (Don't be shy)
Coffee! Haha no seriously though, is there anything better than that first cup of coffee in the morning? That and my husband. He is my rock, my support and a huge inspiration for me each and everyday. We’ve been in love since we were juniors in high school and together have gone through so much and it has only made us stronger. He gave me 2 soon to be 3 children that reflect our love so wonderfully and somehow with each child, we’ve only grown stronger together, its truly amazing.
How do you maintain balance and harmony in your family?
I leave the bull shit for others. This has been something that has been tough for me, not taking on other peoples stressors. I have worked on it so hard and am finally starting to come through some sort of understanding of it all. Living in the present moment, taking time for myself, for my husband and for my children and not letting the worlds pressures sit on my shoulders but simply just doing what I feel is best for my family.
Tell us something about yourself that you've never shared in the internet world. Feel free to be daring and show yourself.
This question is kind of hysterical to me as I’ve been in some intense deep thoughts lately about how I'm feeling about sharing myself. I’ve always been an open book, in fact some people close to me might say I share to much, but lately, I’ve wanted to share less and less. I’m currently in my last weeks of pregnancy with my third child and have gone through some transformations of self and I’m finding I’m wanting to keep more and more private. It is the most bizarre thing for me to feel this way. It has also led me to changing my business direction, which has been very transformative for me.
What is lighting a fire under your _____ right now?
Birthing! I am focusing a lot of my energy these days to having the most calm birth I can. Birthing my other two babies was beautiful but very long, like 5 days long..… I am really trying to get my head straight this time and get rid of the fears of pain I have around birthing and trying to create the perfect space in my home for me to do that. I’ve always felt like I need to control situations, birth and parenting has taught me that there is no control over some situations, that you just have to go with what comes your way and handle it the best way you can. Birthing to me is about giving up control over your body and connecting deeply within your mind and with your baby. Something that I’ve struggled to do with my last two births. I have been on a self discovery journey throughout this pregnancy, it has been beautiful and intense. This will be my second home birth and I couldn’t be more excited to bring another life into this family.
Any last words?
I just want to thank you Camille for interviewing me. We met each other since before puberty hit and it has been amazing to reconnect with you over the years, in play, work and as mothers on the greatest journey of our lives.
