Goddess Diaries: Kathryn Cardinal

I am so excited to share this interview with Kathryn Cardinal, the first in my Goddess Mama series. Kathryn is a long time friend, though I have never met her in person! We hit it off at some point through the virtual scene, and she has been a sweet sister to me that as been there for me in some intense moments.

The community project that her and her husband are spearheading has been inspiring to me, to say the least. They are really creating tribal living in the way that we're all meant to be living.

In a sentence, how can you describe your lifestyle?

I strive to live consciously, slowly, and in a manner that is connected to the landscape and the natural rhythms of mother earth.

What motivates you the most to be living the lifestyle you live?

My biggest motivator is caring for my family and raising my 2 boys in the best possible environment. Everything I do and the choices I make have to do with the legacy I want to leave my children and future generations to come. I aim to live simply, connected to nature, and focused on making positive change in the world around me. Especially as it pertains to the landscape that sustains me - I am passionate about protecting the land and the water.

Where do you look for inspiration?

Mostly I look directly to the natural world and to the way people indigenous to this land have lived sustainably and in balance with their environment. I strive to rewild all aspects of my life - my diet, my self-care, my medicine, etc. As far as childrearing goes, I am inspired by the principles outlined in the book The Continuum Concept by Jean Liedlof.

How do you stay above all of the negativity out there in the world currently?

By always aiming to live each day in the present moment, but also having a larger vision for what I want to accomplish in this life. For example, I am dedicated to working with women and helping them heal themselves holistically on every level, through my work with my practice called Spring Moon. I also do work as a moon lodge facilitator, which helps women reconnect to their feminine power by being surrounded by a powerful support system of women. Having this passion in my heart helps keep me on track and re-centers me when the negativity of civilization threatens to engulf me.

Additionally, my husband and I have started an intentional community in Pennsylvania and we put a lot of our time and energy in this endeavor. We are building an earthship, and other off-grid homes are being built as well. Focusing on growing our tribe and living a life of service helps keep my heart open, and positive. I do what I can to make the world a better place, and as such I feel better equipped to face what may come.

What are things you cannot live without in your daily life? (Don't be shy)

Spending time outside, even if just a few minutes, to feel the breeze on my skin, soak up the sun, and get grounded. Even in snowstorms you can usually find me outside at some point - I am originally from Quebec and I love winter!

Also, I definitely need hugs, kisses, and delicious food.

How do you maintain balance and harmony in your family?

That's a good question! Living in the present moment as much as possible allows our days to flow organically and to face the ups and downs more easily. We are lucky that my husband works from home so we are all together most days, we generally make our own schedules, and we make sure to spend quality time together each day. We do not have a TV and limit screen time, and I think that helps all around to keep us all connected. Making our every day life sacred and having regular ceremonies and rituals in our community, like sweat lodges, also helps on many different levels.

What is lighting a fire under your _____ right now?

The current socio-political climate in the US is definitely a big motivator for me to stay the course and continue pursuing my vision. Especially as it relates to helping women to take back their power and embrace their ability to be catalysts for change in their own lives and the world at large.

Any last words?

Thank you for interviewing me!
